Harmony Hill is a community-focused development of the Benedictine Sisters of Mother of God Monastery. It is with this transformative project, the Sisters intend to leave a legacy for the community. By design, their property will become an asset for the entire region- providing opportunities for housing, educational experiences and recreation, as well as tourism and commerce.
It is their hope, this one-of-a-kind intergenerational campus will be a place where all are welcome. A place to call home, to visit and to enjoy community in numerous ways throughout the 480+ acre campus.
"That's the transformational aspect of a different kind of vocational call..." said Sister Barbara Younger. "If that's (Harmony Hill) the way religious life transforms for Watertown and South Dakota, that would be amazing. That would be totally amazing."
Build a relationship-rich community,
one person at a time.
Provide a unique, transformative experience of community life to seniors, students, veterans and families by the way we live, the way we treat each other, and the life we create together.
This community-focused development of the Benedictine Sisters of Watertown has six key components:
The Continuum of care model planned for The Hill will offer seniors a variety of housing options and levels of service. Residents will have options to right-size their residence, enjoy a variety of amenities, and remain active and engaged with peers to LIVE. CREATE. FLOURSH.
The Village, which is phase 1 of the continuum, offers independent and assisted living apartments, as well as memory care units and countless amenities. Reach out to learn more about making your home on The Hill.
There are a variety of housing options planned for The Hill to support the various needs of the community. Based on current plans, when fully developed there will be over 700 housing units.
From affordable, student and veteran housing to twin homes, condominiums, single family and luxury homes, there will be something for everyone!
Because education was a primary ministry of many of the sisters of Mother of God Monastery, it was important to have educational experiences as part of their legacy project.
In addition to the many collaborative opportunities planned with Lake Area Technical College, The Hill will be the home to the Challenger Learning Center of South Dakota and Challenger Park. With STEM Education as the focus both will offer meaningful and unique learning opportunities for students across the region. These elite facilities are designed to ignite the potential in students and spark a passion for learning that can last a lifetime. As the only Challenger Learning Center in the state of South Dakota, this as well as Challenger Park, will be a draw for tourists from across the region.
Whether a resident or visitor, there are a variety of ways to enjoy the great outdoors planned for The Hill!
With 4+ miles of trails, fishing & recreation ponds, and countless acres of South Dakota’s unique virgin prairie, there will something for everyone - bird watchers, snowshoers,
kite flyers and star gazers.
Challenger Learning Center of South Dakota and Challenger Park will also be a draw for tourist to The Hill. Both of these attractions are not only unique to SD but the
region, nation and world!!
With Hwy 81 and 20th Avenue framing the NE corner of Harmony Hill, the Sisters realized the opportunity for commercial development. Businesses utilizing this prime location will be able to support the residents, activities and events happening at The Hill, as well as commuters and
visitors to Watertown
As a core Benedictine value, stewardship of all creation is important to the Sisters. In an effort to minimize and limit their impact on the environment, attention will be given to energy consumption and production.
In addition to using energy efficient systems, products and utilizing resource management practices, the establishment of a solar farm on the west side of Harmony Hill is also part of the planned development.
